The basic setup of a hybrid electric vehicle involves two battery packs– auxiliary and traction batteries. The traction battery pack is the main form of electric power for the hybrid car, and stores the electricity to be utilized by the motor. On the other hand, the auxiliary battery is a smaller, low-voltage battery that helps start the car and powers electronics. A DC/DC Converter converts the higher-voltage DC power from the traction battery pack to the lower-voltage DC power required for the operation of accessories and to recharge the auxiliary battery.
