What Can Toyota Trucks Tow?

Toyota Tundra

The new Toyota trucks have been built to handle large loads, with the midsize Toyota Tacoma towing up to 6,800 lbs and the full-size Toyota Tundra handling a max towing capacity of 10,200 lbs. Take a closer look at the towing numbers and towing features on both of these pickups, and then take them both out for a test drive at Brent Brown Toyota in Orem, UT.

Towing Capacity

The Tacoma and Tundra are both offered with capable towing numbers across the board.

ModelMinimum Available Towing CapacityMax Towing Capacity
2017 Toyota Tacoma3,500 lbs (four-cylinder engine, 4×2)6,800 lbs (V6 engine, 4×4, Tow Package)
2018 Toyota Tundra200d6,800 lbs (4.6L V8, 4×2)200d10,200 lbs (5.7L V8, 4×4, Tow Package)

Towing Features

Both of these pickups are also available with a wide range of towing features that make it easier, safer, and more convenient to haul big loads of stuff behind you:

  • Trailer Sway Control (TSC) â€“ This feature is able to read whether and how a trailer is swaying behind the truck. It then delivers specific amounts of power and torque, and applies brake pressure to individual wheels in order to help reduce sway and keep control.
  • TOW/HAUL Mode â€“ Available on the Tundra, this feature recalibrates the transmission to hold low gears longer when hauling big loads so that the transmission doesn’t search around for gears.
  • Standard Backup Camera â€“ The Tacoma and Tundra both come standard with a backup camera, which makes it easier for you to keep track of what you’re trailering and easier to maneuver a big load by giving you a clear view of what’s behind you.

Toyota Bluetooth® Troubleshooting Sometimes connecting your phone to your Bluetooth® in Toyota Corolla can be tricky, and you may find that after you turn on your Toyota your phone is not shown on your multimedia screen or your phone notifications will not show up on your Toyota Entune screen. If you’re looking for Toyota Bluetooth® troubleshooting, we’ve outlined some causes and solutions below: There are several reasons why your phone would not appear on your Toyota’s multimedia screen. Here’s what to do for each: The vehicle’s Bluetooth® setting may not be enabled. To check this feature go to menu > setup > Bluetooth® > detailed settings > and verify that Bluetooth® power is turned on. Make sure that your phone’s Bluetooth® option is turned on, you can turn on Bluetooth® in your phone’s settings. If there are 5 devices already registered on your Toyota, a new Bluetooth® connection will not be made. Use the same steps above to check which devices are registered on your Toyota, and then remove an old device to pair your new one. If there are two connected devices paired at the same time, one may be selected as audio-only. To fix this, go to the Bluetooth® menu and select “registered devices”. Here you can select which device you’d like to have enabled for phone or music settings by pressing the appropriate icon. If your phone pairs with your Toyota correctly, but your Toyota will not alert you to new messages or phone calls, follow these steps: Check your phone permissions. A lot of Toyota Bluetooth® troubleshooting is caused by the phone itself. Go into your phone’s settings to ensure that push notifications for calls and messages from your preferred app are enabled beside your connected vehicle’s name. If you continue to have problems, you may need to reset your phone or your Entune system: To reset your phone, power off your phone completely for 30 seconds, and turn it back on. Be sure you’re powering off your phone and not just restarting it. To reset the Entune System, press and hold the audio knob to power off the system and Entune will power off and restart on its own.
