How to Change the Oil in a Toyota Camry

Toyota Camry

Routine maintenance is important for any vehicle, as it prevents premature breakdowns and expensive repairs. If you recently purchased a Toyota Camry, you’ll want to learn a little about its maintenance requirements to stay safe on roads in Provo and elsewhere. Changing the oil is among the most important and arguably-easiest maintenance tasks that keep your engine running like new. Learn about the Toyota Camry oil change process with Brent Brown Toyota and know that our service team is here to change the oil and other vehicle fluids quickly and efficiently.

Toyota Camry Oil Change Frequency

As a general rule, you’ll want to change the oil in your Toyota Camry every 5,000 miles or every six months, whichever comes first. However, if your Camry runs on synthetic oil, you can probably wait till you reach the 10,000-mile mark until this essential fluid needs changing. It is also important to consider assorted driving factors, such as how often you drive around Lehi and the surrounding areas, before creating a Toyota Camry oil change schedule. The terrain is another important factor–for example, if you drive on dirt roads relatively often, you’ll need to change the oil more frequently to avoid dirt and dust buildup issues.

How to Change Oil in a Toyota Camry

To successfully change the oil in your Toyota Camry, you need the following supplies:

  • Oil Filter
  • Oil Collection Pan
  • Oil (Check owner’s manual for how many quarts)
  • Rags
  • Funnel

Once you have everything you need, perform the following steps:

  1. Place the oil collection pan under your Camry, then remove the plug and drain the oil.
  2. Replace the old oil filter with a new one.
  3. Replace the oil drain plug.
  4. Unscrew the engine oil cap.
  5. Refer to your owner’s manual to determine how much oil your vehicle needs in quarts.
  6. Check for leaks at the bottom of your Camry while adding the oil.
  7. Inspect the oil dipstick to see if more oil is needed.
  8. Reset the maintenance light if it is still lit up.
